The Cotswolds is an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is much loved by English tourists as well as overseas visitors who flock to the area in their thousands each year. Character honey coloured stone buildings nestling in hollows and folds in the hills typify this area of Gloucestershire. The Cotswolds are green and rural with farming being the main economy, apart from tourism.
Gloucestershire encompasses the Forest of Dean
The Royal Royal Forest of Dean, located in the west of Gloucestershire, is one of England’s few remaining ancient forests. It covers an area of 27,000 acres of woodland. Designated as a National Forest Park in 1938, the Forest of Dean is simply stunning and spectacular and has to be seen to be really appreciated. The flora changes with the seasons and the area is abundant with wild life. There are few places in England that are more picturesque than the Forest of Dean.
Cheltenham Spa in Gloucestershire is well known not only for its spa waters, but also some wonderful shopping and charming buildings and parks. Cheltenham racecourse is the home of National Hunt horse racing and the town is awash with race goers every March and is a particular favourite with the Irish.
